Travel 2016

South Carolina - Christopher and Molly Wedding
In April
we took the RV to South Carolina for nephew Christopher's wedding with Molly!  It was a grand event and we greatly enjoyed visiting with Carol's sister Candy and husband Charles.

Georgia - Jim and Ruth
From there we went to Ellijay, Georgia near the Blue Ridge Mountains to visit our friends Jim and Ruth.  Jim is a ham radio operator we met when he lived in Port Aransas.  We visited several wineries and had some fine meals.

Tennessee - Dollywood & Gatlinburg
From Georgia, Carol suggested that Dollywood was only a few hours away so we headed to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, Tennessee.  I wasn't sure what to expect but we were both pleasantly surprised with great entertainment, beautiful surroundings, and awesome arts and crafts.

South Dakota - Mt Rushmore, Badlands National Park, Minuteman Missile National Site, and Wall Drug
In July we set out on another great loop stopping first in Albuquerque to visit Carol's brother Gary and his family.  We then headed to Mt Rushmore in South Dakota.  In all of our travels we had never been there before and decided it was time to see this famous National Memorial.  It was awesome, so was the crowd!  We stayed in the nearby KOA where our space was #598!  I've never seen an RV park this large before.  Having some time left over we also visited the Badlands National Park and Minuteman Missile National Historic Site, as well as Wall Drug!  Anyone who has been to this part of the country obviously knows about Wall Drug what a place.

Wyoming - Devils Tower
From South Dakota we headed to Devils Tower in Wyoming.  Carol didn't realize its significance so I made her watch Close Encounters of the Third Kind.  The RV park was right at the entrance and just below the tower so we had a close-up constant view all the time.

Montana - American Computer & Robotics Museum
The main reason for this trip was to make a donation to the American Computer and Robotics Museum in Bozeman, Montana (http://www.compustory.com/) .   I donated my homebuilt computer from 1974-1981. See Homebuilt Computer.  George Keremedjiev, the Director, had told me that he wanted to add an exhibit depicting computer hobbyists in the 1970's, similar to one at the Smithsonian museum.  I donated the computer, several development tools, and a parts cabinet full of computer parts of the era.

Montana - DC & Patti
We eventually made our way to Darby, Montana and spent some great time with our friends DC and Patti, having picnics and taking ATV rides on the Forest Service roads in the Bitterroot Mountains.  Lake Como is beautiful and just minutes from Darby.

Las Vegas- 49th Wedding Anniversary
Then for some big-time fun we spent four days  in Las Vegas celebrating our 49th wedding anniversary with dinner  in the Stratosphere Tower (3rd time) and a performance of Cirque du Soleil's KA.  I won't mention how Carol did at the slots!  We then headed home via Meteor Crater in Arizona and back into Texas.
