2016 Highlights

Our highlights this year primarily involve travel!  With Richard's back finally doing much better after surgery last year we got back on the road RVing, and also took a plane flight to New Hampshire.  So we set off on two long RV trips, one 2500 miles and another 5100 miles, with several shorter trips in between.

2016 Other activities

Carol is still working at St. Helen church two days a week maintaining the data base, and painting furiously for months on end to prepare for her annual crafts show.  She paints Christmas ornaments and scenes, and does homemade dips, rubs, and candies.  For more info click here.  She plays tennis weekly, has wine with some lady friends and plays bridge monthly.

Richard continues to do projects around the house and in the yard, as well as expanding his ham radio station.  He is currently in the process of updating our home automation system that controls much of the lighting, replacing aging boards on the deck around the pool, and doing the annual staining of the deck.  For his ham radio he recently added a new technology Flex 6300 "software defined radio" SDR that uses computers to perform most of the functions of two-way radio communication.  For more info click here

We have managed to make some improvements to the front of the house and yard following the untimely demise of our three big beautiful shade trees.  We extended the front porch, added a railing, and surfaced the porch with textured Sundek.  We also removed about 1,000 sq ft of grass and replaced it with a mulched flower bed, which Carol immediately filled with shrubs and flowering plants.  Finally, our two replacement oak trees are really starting to take root and fill out - over 20' tall now.  We just need to keep the deer out of everything.  They killed one of the original oak trees and are constantly eating the "deer resistant" plants.  Carol uses chili powder as a deterrent!

2016 The Family

Annette and family are all settled in their new house from last year.  Following the completion her Master's degree she was offered a position as Assistant Principal at  River Place Elementary.  It seems to be a good match and she is loving the new challenges.  Richie continues building projects throughout the surrounding counties, staying extremely busy with several supervisors reporting to him. Madison is a Junior at Baylor University majoring in Environmental Science.  This Summer she will be a Research Assistant.  She continues to be involved in various volunteer projects.  Macy is in 6th grade, still full of energy and sometimes mischief.  She has recently joined a new volleyball league.   Harper is now in 2nd grade at Annette's school and still loves American Girl dolls.

Suzanne finally got out of Retail, leaving Bath and Body after over 20 years.  She is now Office Manager for a local Farmers Insurance agent.  Having weekends and holidays off is such an improvement!  She continues as President of the Ladies Club at church and is active in PTA.  Shane is in his 9th  year working nights at HEB grocery.  Austin is now a sophomore in high school and playing baseball under the high school coaches.  Jackson is in 6th grade and still loves building things and playing video games.

Stephen is still doing construction management with Leander ISD, continuing to build more schools in this fast growing section of the country.  He still spends time volunteering with the local YMCA.  Amy is still the prosecutor in the Lakeway, TX justice system.  Angela and Kenley are Seniors at Vandegrift High School and have been accepted to Samford University in Birmingham AL.  Noah is in 7th grade and continues to enjoy football and video games.
