The Berry Family of Central Texas

Then and Now

Retirement has really opened up the opportunity for travel - and we're having a great time.  Here are some photos of our RV, photos from our trips this year, and a list of previous travels.

The RV

Carri-Lite XTRM5

Our RV is a Carri-Lite CLS36 XTRM5 - a 36' 5th wheel trailer pulled by a Ford F350 diesel with dual rear wheels.  The trailer is highly "personalized" - we've replaced the recliners, sleeper sofa, bedding, and TVs.  In 2009 we converted the brakes from electric drums to hydraulic discs and replaced the entire suspension with the Mor/Ryde IS system.  Each wheel is completely independent.  We also upgraded from 16" G-rated tires to 17.5" wheels and Goodyear G114 H-rated tires along with adding a PressurePro tire pressure monitoring system.

New Samsung Fridge

In 2014 I replaced the original propane/electric refrigerator with a larger Samsung residential fridge.  For the complete conversion process step-by-step click here

Paint and Decal Refurbish
In December of 2014 we had the fading and peeling decals removed.  We had the stripes painted on and the "Carriage" logo decals replaced with new ones.  It looks almost like new again!

Port Aransas  - stayed at a different RV Resort called Gulf Waters

We visit Port Aransas on the Gulf Coast near Corpus Christi once or twice a year.  We usually stay at Pioneer RV park but this year we stayed at Gulf Waters - quite a bit nicer.

Las Vegas - for our 45th Anniversary

Carol and Richard flew to Las Vegas to celebrate our 45th Anniversary We stayed at Caesar's Palace, saw Celine Dion and Cirque du Soleil "O", and had dinner at the Stratosphere Tower.  Sorry, no photos - what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!  Well OK, I'll include one photo, of us in the desert - Carol had to get off the bike to take this photo.

Disney World

In April we took Macy and Jackson to Disney World for five days and six nights.  We stayed on the Disney property at Port Orleans and had breakfast or dinner "with the characters" four times, at:  Crystal Palace, Chef Mickey's, Donald's Safari, and with the Princesses at the Norway pavilion.  It was the first flight for both them.  Macy giggled and laughed during takeoff and Jackson sat there with big eyes.

In June we took a cruise/land tour to Alaska and the Yukon.  The cruise ship was the mv Zuiderdam out of Vancouver, BC.  We sailed three days stopping in Juneau and ending in Skagway where we boarded the Whitepass and Yukon railway then continued via motor coach, river boat, and train.

The tour took us to:  Vancouver, Juneau, Skagway, Whitehorse, Carcross, Moose Creek, Dawson City, Eagle, Tok, Fairbanks, Denali National Park, and Anchorage

We took a couple of days in Vancouver prior to embarking, and a couple of days in Anchorage after the tour.  One of the highlights was riding the famous McKinley Explorer domed railcar from Fairbanks to Anchorage with a stay-over in Denali National Park.

Memorable 2008 Travel

Cedar Ridge Park
Lake Belton, TX
This is a very nice park that we discovered in 2007.  It's spacious and has great views of the lake.  Wild turkeys abound.  We were surprised by a sudden cold front that took the temperature below freezing so we had to visit Walmart to pick up another space heater!
Northern Italy and the Italian Riviera Two weeks in Northern Italy and the Italian Riviera.  A fantastic trip we had been planning for a while, with Carol's sister Candy and her husband Charles.  It was a Go Ahead Tour and they were great.  Our guide Matteo was extremely knowledgeable about Italian cuisine and history - and he was very entertaining.  The tour included Lago Maggiore, Torino, Barolo, La Morra D'Alba, Asti, Santa Margherita Ligure, Cinque Terre, Parma, Bologna, Florence, Ferrara, Verona, and Venice.  We are looking forward to doing more tours like this in the future.
Ponderosa Campground
This was our "big trip" of the year.  The entire family - all the kids and grandkids - came to Albuquerque to celebrate Carol's dad's 90th birthday, then we all continued to Ponderosa Campground on the Conjeos River 17 miles West of Antonito, Colorado.  We were also joined by Carol's brother Gary and his family.
